Helen (Seferiadis) Rogers, 85, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 after a rapid decline in health. She was born on April 6, 1941 in Acushnet, Massachusetts to Christo and Anna (Cozan) Seferiadis.
Helen graduated from New Bedford High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State University and a master's degree from Boston University. She was employed by the New Bedford School System working as a history teacher and later as director of the high school media centers.
Helen served on the New Bedford Library Board for many years. She was a member of the Zeiterion Theater, assisting as an usher as well. In addition, Helen was a member of the Friends of Buttonwood Park. In later years, she began volunteering at the Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry and Community Breakfast Program where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow volunteers. She was an active parishioner of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and donated her time as an organist and choir member.
Always on the go, many may recognize Helen from her early morning walks around her beloved Buttonwood Park. An avid reader of books and newspapers, she possessed a wealth of knowledge of past and present events.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Stephen J. Rogers, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage, and her brother George Seferiadis. She is survived by her son Christopher J. Rogers of Dartmouth; her daughter Elaine M. Rogers Dupre of Dartmouth and her husband Peter G. Dupre; and her two grandchildren Jacob Joseph Dupre and Annica Eleni Dupre, who were one of her greatest joys. She is also survived by her brother John Seferiadis of Newton.
The family would like to thank Helen's wonderful neighbors, her dedicated caregivers fondly referred to as Team Yiayia, and Community Nurse and Hospice of Fairhaven.
A private family burial service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made online to The Grace Episcopal Food Pantry at www.gracechurchnb.org. For online guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
