Henry E. Parkin, Jr., 73, of New Bedford died Sunday January 30, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jane L. (Butler) Parkin.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Henry E. and Evelyn (Tripp) Parkin, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Parkin served in the U.S. Army then in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Technical Sergeant after 26 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed at Polaroid Corporation in New Bedford.
Mr. Parkin was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Retired Enlisted Association. He was a member and past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531. He had served as a baseball coach for the Whaling City Little League.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David H. Parkin and Michael J. Parkin, and his wife Renee, all of New Bedford, and Thomas A. Parkin, and his wife Carolyn, of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Jane E. Mulvey, and her husband James, and Kathleen P. Neves, and her husband Joseph, all of New Bedford; a brother, Galen Parkin and his wife, Beverly, of New Bedford; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joan Ann Parkin and Paul E. Parkin.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday February 2, 2005 at 10 AM in St. Lawrence Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visitation at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30 AM, prior to the Funeral Mass.
