Irene E. (Murphy) Loosen, 78, died January 17, 2007 at home after a brief illness.She was the former wife of the late Louis L. Loosen.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John D. and Rebecca T. (Makin) Murphy, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Mrs. Loosen was a dedicated licensed practical nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, Bedford Village Nursing Home and the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. In her retirement, she was a dedicated foster grandparent at PACE Headstart on Smith Street in New Bedford.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and nurse. She enjoyed the beach and cooking.
Survivors include a son, Mark A. Loosen of Jefferson, MO; a sister, Camilla M. Lopez of New York; five grandchildren, Tyffaney Oliveira, Eric Oliveira and Daniel Oliveira, all of New Bedford, Katie Beth Loosen and Sean Michael Loosen both of Fayetteville, NC; and a great-granddaughter, Faith Lynn Oliveira.
She was the mother of the late Cynthia T. Loosen.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Monday, January 22nd at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, January 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
