Irene Skaar

Irene Skaar, 62, of Fairhaven passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of Gabriel and Ellen (Medhaug) Skaar, she lived in Fairhaven most of her life.

Irene loved the Patriots, cooking, and vacations in Florida and Norway. She was very creative and loved her work as a chef. Most recently, she worked at the Omni hotel in Boston and Encore Casino. For a few years Irene lived and worked with extended family in Cordova, Alaska. She scalloped with her brother on F/V Thor in New Bedford. Irene attended UMass Dartmouth as well as Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School. She loved listening to Jimmy Buffet and being with her dog Samson.

Survivors include her parents, Gabriel and Ellen; her siblings, Ann Skaar and her partner Carlos, Jeffrey Skaar and his wife Kristin, and Elsie Skaar Bendiksen and her husband Tor; her nephews, Gabriel, Leif and Gavin; nieces, Courtney, Alena, and Emme; a Goddaughter and niece Eve; and her great-nieces Freya, Sybil and Hester.

Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 11 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be private and visiting hours are omitted.
