Rev. Jack H. Haney, of Fairhaven, MA, passed away at home on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Jack was born in Camden, NJ to Beulah Flanegan Haney and John "Jack" Hartley Haney on May 26, 1938.
He earned a BA from West Virginia Wesleyan in 1962 and a Masters of Divinity from Drew University Theological School in 1966. Jack was always a spiritual seeker serving as clergy in three denominations before finding his home within the Episcopal church.
He served congregations in various states with his last full-time position at Christ Church in North Conway, NH. Jack loved his time post-retirement as an interim priest including stints in Biddeford, ME and at St. Mary's in Falmouth, ME. Jack had a way of building relationships among his parishioners that lasted to his final days.
Jack loved books, flowers and family. He leaves behind a book collection that could start a theological bookstore...or a mystery bookstore...or both! If someone didn't bring him flowers, he had no problem summoning them from a florist. He loved the color and beauty of floral arrangements. Nothing brightened Jack's spirits more than a visit from his daughter Kristin and his great-grandson.
Jack is survived by his partner, Eric Braitmayer; his daughter, Kristin Haney and her partner Warren; his brother, Fred and his wife Michelle; his grandchildren, Taylor Haney and Jaz Greiss; his great-grandson, Jasper Greiss; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Kara Denise Haney.
Jack also had an affinity for Cornish Rex cats. He is survived by Sir Impey Biggs, who is missing him dearly, and was pre-deceased by Euclid and Basil.
Jack had a challenging health history and was dependent on others for many years before his passing. His final years were greatly improved by the loving care he received from Kyle Eastman and Lisa Costa. They are part of the family now! We are also forever grateful for the care he received from Community Nurse Home Care and Southcoast Health.
Jack's memorial service will be on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 1pm at Grace Episcopal Church, 133 School St., New Bedford, with parking available across the street at the Wamsutta Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Community Nurse Home Care, Grace Episcopal Church or Southcoast Health. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Mattapoisett. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
