Jacob Willis Briggs ("Jake"), 34, formerly of Halifax, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, March 13, 2026, in New Bedford, MA. Born on June 17, 1991, Jake was the son of Robert and Anne Briggs of New Bedford, formerly of Halifax. Jake was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose untimely death will leave a lasting impact on those who loved him most.
Jacob was a proud graduate of Silver Lake Regional High School, where he was a dedicated football player and wrestler, and Massasoit Community College, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice and later continued coursework in the field at Bridgewater State University. He spent most of his working life doing what he loved most, working as a chef in various restaurant kitchens, where his talent, passion, and personality shined bright.
Jacob's presence in the lives of those who knew him was larger than life. Jake had a way of making people feel safe and understood. He carried a fierce loyalty to the people he loved and would stand up and defend them without hesitation. To many, he was not just a friend or brother - he was a protector and a confidant. He had a quick wit, an unmatched sense of humor, and a personality that could fill any room and lift any spirit. He loved Halloween and looked forward to dressing up and taking advantage of the opportunity to make people laugh. He was the life of every gathering, always ready with a joke or story that could effortlessly bring smiles and laughter. Beneath that humor was a deeply caring heart and a man who loved his family and friends with every ounce of his being, treasuring every moment spent with them. He found peace and happiness in the simple things, especially being outdoors - camping, fishing, and sitting around fires, surrounded by friends, listening to country music, which was his favorite. Jacob believed in living life fully and unapologetically, and that is exactly how he lived. He lived boldly, with passion, and with a heart that never held back.
Jacob leaves behind a family who will continue to love him endlessly and eternally. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Anne Briggs; and his siblings, Joseph Briggs and his wife Rachel, Amanda Briggs and her fiancé James Griffin, Rebecca Briggs and her partner Johnson Louicar, and Nicole Briggs and her husband Adam Briggs. Jake was also a cherished uncle to his four nieces, Alyssa, Haylee, Lylah, and Mya, and four nephews, Cody, Jonah, Jovanni, and Josiah; and nephew of Helene Urbano. He also leaves behind countless friends whose lives he touched with his unwavering loyalty, loving heart, and caring spirit. Jake is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen Urbano.
Although his time here was far too short, Jacob lived in a way many only dream of - wholeheartedly and fearlessly, surrounded by love. The memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will forever remain in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him. His family and friends will carry his spirit with them always, remembering the devoted brother, son, uncle, and friend who went above and beyond to be there for those he loved and to bring them joy and happiness. Jacob will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Visiting hours and service plans will be announced by the family. In honor of Jake, donations may be made to Global Parents for Eczema Research and the Make a Wish Foundation.
