James S. Akrep, 73, of New Bedford passed away Friday June 7, 2024 after a brief illness.

Born in Barnstable, the son of the late William J. and Shirley J. (Woodward) Akrep, he lived in New Bedford since the early 1990s.

Jimmy attended the Day Habilitation program at LifeStream on Mill Road in Acushnet.  He enjoyed listening to music, watching television, and spending time with his good friends and housemates, Kenny, Ricky, and Rick.

He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Jones and her husband Dennis of Oregon and Judith Akrep of Alaska; his niece and nephew, Erin Coyle and Nathan Coyle, both of California; numerous cousins, and in particular Marianne Hubinger; and his extended family from Better Community Living.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday June 13th at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 10-11 AM prior to the service.  Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.  For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
