James S. "Uncle Jimmy" Devlin, 74, of New Bedford died Saturday November 26, 2005 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness. He was the companion of C.C. MacCord.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Robert F. and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Devlin, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Devlin was formerly employed as a fish lumper on the New Bedford waterfront for many years. In his later years, he was employed by Cuttyhunk Boat Lines and the Alert II.
Survivors include his companion; a son, Steven Devlin of New Bedford; a daughter, Elizabeth Cunha of Fairhaven; a brother, Joseph H. Devlin of New Bedford; a sister, Edna Martin of Dartmouth; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Devlin, Robert Devlin, Edward Devlin, Lillian Lafar, Bernice Mielke, and Catherine Rego Darmofal.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday November 28, 2005 from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Animal Rescue League, 31 Ventura Drive, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
