Obituary

James W. Harris, 84, of Mattapoisett died December 21, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy H. (Brown) Harris.
Born in Bangor, Maine, the son of the late William J. and Edna (Weld) Harris, he moved to Mattapoisett in 1951.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church.
He was formerly employed by the Acushnet Company for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Maconchu Club, the Mattapoisett Historical Society, the Mattapoisett Land Trust, the University of Maine Alumni Association, life time member of the Star in the East Lodge #60 A.F. & A.M. and a National Master in the American Contract Bridge League.
He served in the US Navy during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 4 bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 star, World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane B. Harris, of Mattapoisett; 2 sons, William C. Harris, and his wife Monica, of Onemo, VA and Mark T. Harris of Randolph, MA; a brother,Deane Harris of Bradley, ME; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Tuesday, December 27th at 11 AM.
Visiting hours Monday, December 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Interment Cushing Cemetery.
