James A. Murphy, 45 of New Bedford died June 4, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital.

He was the son of Earl D. Murphy of Virginia and the late Evelyn (Absher) Murphy and step-son of Jean Murphy of Virginia.

Mr. Murphy was born in Louisville, Kentucky and moved to New Bedford 20 years ago.

He was formerly employed as a commercial fisherman on several vessels in the New Bedford fleet.

Mr. Murphy was an artistic person who enjoyed model boat building, gardening, animals, sportfishing and the beaches of Martha's Vineyard.

Survivors include his father and step-mother; his dear friend Bonnie Dehner and her family, of New Bedford.

His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 11th at 7 PM in St. James Church, New Bedford. Visiting hours are omitted. Burial will be private.
