Jean M. (Sylvia) Giammalvo, 89, of New Bedford, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, after a long illness.  She was the wife of the late Sam Giammalvo.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Leo Sylvia and Mary (Brown) Oliveira, she lived in New Bedford all her life where she was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Jean was the office manager at Sam Giammalvo's Auto Sales until her retirement.  She was an avid Scrabble player, beating most who dared play with her.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Steven and Noreen Giammalvo of Florida, Glenn and Kathy Giammalvo of New Bedford, and Mark and Terri Giammalvo of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Danny, Jeff (Brittany), and Andy (Amanda) Giammalvo of Florida, Angelina Jay (James) of Boston, and Jessica Giammalvo of Colorado, her great-grandson, Landen Giammalvo of Florida; her sisters, Delores Uzzell of New Bedford and Janice Cutting of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Lionel Sylvia, Leo Sylvia, and Julie Kaughman.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Barbara's girls from Care with Love, especially Rose, Deb, Maria, Margarita, Leslie and Charish for their care and compassion with Jean and her family during the last chapter of her life.

Her funeral will be held on Monday November 25th at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 11 AM.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be on Sunday November 24th from 2-5 PM.
