Obituary

Jeannette G. (Jackson) Soucy, 97, of Acushnet, formerly of New Bedford and Florida, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024.  She was the loving wife of the late Paul A. Soucy.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late William R. Jackson and the late Valida Marie (Tetreault) Jackson Chase, she was raised in New Bedford and lived in Florida for many years before moving to Acushnet in 2007.

Jeannette was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

She was formerly employed by New England Telephone and then later by States Niteware, where she worked until her retirement.

Jeannette enjoyed knitting, reading, and spending time in Florida.

Survivors include three children, Adrienne Despres (Lenny Ponte), Susan Despres and her husband Richard, and Paul Soucy and his wife Jeanie; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her step-father, Walter Chase; and her step-sisters, Peggy Alves and Eleanor Bancroft.

Her Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, with everyone invited to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery #1. Visiting hours will be Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
