Joan M. (Ward) Gomes, 93, of New Bedford died December 17, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Albino "Bino" Gomes.
Born in New Bedford on December 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah J. (Coop) Ward.  She was raised in the Southend and lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church where she enjoyed volunteering in the thrift shop, altar guild, choir, food pantry and was once a Sunday School teacher.
Mrs. Gomes enjoyed spending time with her family, her friends at church and her cat.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan E. Simon and her husband Eric of Fairhaven; a brother, James Ward of Hull; 2 sisters-in-law, Delores Gomes and Mary Ellen Gomes; 2 grandchildren, Hailey E. Simon and Aaron J. Gomes; 2 step-grandchildren, Eric C. Simon and Taylor J. Smith; 3 great-grandchildren, Juliana R. Gomes, Garret M. Gomes and Eli J. Gomes; 4 step-great-grandchildren, Peyton E. Parks, Lianna J. Smith, Stella H. Smith and Ty Smith; 2 nephews, Michael Gomes and Scott Gomes; a niece, Nancy Gomes Downing Schloss; and 2 Godchildren, Susan I. Plaud and James A. Ward.
She was the mother of the late Gary M. Gomes, mother-in-law of the late Michelle Gomes and grandmother of the late Mathew M. Gomes.
Her Memorial Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 7th at 10 AM in St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 136 Rivet St. New Bedford.  Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 136 Rivet St. New Bedford MA  02744.
