Joana Lopes, 94, of New Bedford died Friday May 12, 2017 at the Royal of Fairhaven.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Manuel and Emariana (Lomba) Lopes, she lived in New Bedford for over 30 years.

She is survived by two sisters, Julia Mingola and Eugenia Lessa; a niece, Margie Barros; a great-niece, Courtney Rego; and two great-nephews, John Alves, Jr. and Aaron Alves.

She was the sister of the late John Lopes, Antonio L. Lopes, Maria Fortes, Berta Pires, and Laura Andrade, and aunt of the late Marie E. Alves.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
