In Loving Memory of Joao M. Soares

A Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Son, and Friend

January 22, 1968 – June 9, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Joao M. Soares, a proud Cape Verdean man from the island of São Nicolau, who entered eternal rest on June 9, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Joao was a man of quiet strength, tireless dedication, and deep compassion. Throughout his life, he worked hard—without complaint and without seeking praise—to provide for his family and help those around him. His selflessness, humility, and generosity touched the lives of many and left a legacy of kindness and service.

He was the beloved husband of Helena Soares, his life partner and closest friend. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, respect, and enduring love.

Joao was a devoted father to his children, Natalie and Jonathan, and found his greatest joy in watching them grow and succeed. His love and guidance shaped their lives in countless ways. He was also the proud grandfather of Carson, who brought him immense happiness and pride. Joao's love for his grandson was boundless, and the special bond they shared will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his loving mother, several devoted brothers and sisters, and a wide circle of family and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his father, whose spirit Joao honored throughout his life.

Rooted in his Cape Verdean heritage, Joao embraced the joys of music, family gatherings, and the rhythms of island life. He found peace in simple pleasures and purpose in serving others. Whether offering a helping hand, a word of advice, or simply his time, Joao was always there when you needed him.

To know Joao was to be loved by him. He lived with grace, worked with pride, and gave with an open heart. His legacy is one of strength, humility, and unconditional love.

Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the incredible life he lived and the deep love he gave. His spirit will live on in all who knew him—and especially in the hearts of his wife, children, and precious grandson.

May Joao M. Soares rest in eternal peace. Forever loved. Forever remembered.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 7:45 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.  Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be on Friday, June 13th from 4-8 PM.
