Joel Pires, 83, of Lowell passed away Sunday November 3, 2024.  He was the husband of the late Barbara M. (Duarte) Pires.

Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Jose Pires and Constance (Alves) Pires, he lived in Boston before moving to the Lowell area 30 years ago.

Joel was formerly employed as a truck driver for Smith's Transfer in Billerica and later retired from St. Johnsbury Trucking Company.  He also formerly owned and operated N-Joy Limousine Service. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 25.

He enjoyed fishing and being on the water in his boat.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his children, Joel J. Pires and DuAnne M. Pires; his grandsons, Joel S. Pires and Myles B. Pemberton; and many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Angelina Costa, Madeline Cruz, Muriel Pina, Antone Pina, James Pina, Hector Pina, and Herman Pina.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday November 16th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
