John M. "Jack" Newby, 63, of New Bedford died May 7, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Chelsea, the son of the late John M. and Mary E. (Naegele) Newby, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a longtime friend of Bill W.
Survivors include a brother, James Newby, and his wife June, of New Bedford; a sister, Mary Ellen Newby of New Bedford; 2 nephews, Mattthew J. Pearl and John P. Newby, both of New Bedford; 2 nieces, Bethany Vaughn, and her husband Wes, of Atlanta, GA and Meggan Wells, and her husband Squire, of Estero, FL; 2 great-nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, 2006 at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth. Visiting hours Thursday, May 11, 2006 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Sacred Heart Nursing Home, 359 Summer St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
