John L. Fernandes

John L. Fernandes, III, 75, of New Bedford died April 15, 2026 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John J. Fernandes, Jr. and Jeannette I. (Renaud) Fernandes, he was raised in Fairhaven before moving to New Bedford.
He was formerly employed as a machinest at Acushnet Company Rubber Division for most of his career before retiring as a machine mechanic at Titleist.
John had a passion for golf and was an avid golfer at Whaling City Golf Course, Acushnet River Valley Golf Course and Reservation Golf Course. John also enjoyed going to concerts with his daughter, clambakes with friends and playing Keno.
Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Kobza-Gagne of Fairhaven; 2 brothers, Wayne Fernandes of Maine and Steven Fernandes of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Rosemany Carter of Billerica, Judy Fernandes of New Bedford and Janet Harrison of Wareham; a grandson, Trevor John Kobza of Fairhaven , and Joseph Carter of Bronx, NY who was like a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father-in-law of the late Richard Gagne and the brother of the late Joann Guerra.
His Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 1st at 11 AM in Riverside Cemetery, 274 Main St. Fairhaven. Please join the family at a Celebration of Life luncheon, details to follow.
