John Lavadinho, 87, of New Bedford died October 18, 2025 at Alden Court.

Born in Ílhavo, Portugal, son of the late João Amadeu Bichão Lavadinho and Deolinda (Vagos) Bichão, he lived in New Bedford since the early 1970's.

He enjoyed travel to Portugal and spending time with family and friends.

John was formerly employed as a commercial fisherman here in New Bedford and as a mechanical engineer of large vessels in Portugal.

Survivors include his 4 children, Amadeu Jose Lavadinho and his wife Linda of New Bedford, Marina Garcia and her husband Salvador of New Bedford, Michael Lavadinho of Florida and Monica Lavadinho and her partner Marco Romao of Weymouth; a sister, Fatima Oliveira and her husband João Madalena of Ílhavo, Portugal; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His private Funeral Service was held on Thursday, October 23rd in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
