John Martin, Jr.

John Martin, Jr., 66, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Medeiros) Martin. He was raised in Fairhaven and lived in Fairhaven, Dartmouth, and New Bedford for most of his life.

John was a talented carpenter and entrepreneur who owned and operated his own business for more than 20 years. He most recently worked for Zussy Brothers. Taking great pride in his craft, he followed in the footsteps of his late father and found fulfillment in creating things with his own hands.

John lived life to the fullest. A loud and strong presence, he brought light and laughter wherever he went. He was the king of the selfie, unapologetically outrageous, and never afraid to be himself. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, the ocean, sports, kayaking, camping, and outdoor adventures. Above all, he loved spending time on the water and making memories with those he loved.

Family was at the heart of John's life. He loved his daughters deeply and shared a lifetime of laughter, stories, adventures, and cherished memories with them. They always knew they could count on their dad and never doubted how much he loved them.

One of John's greatest joys was being "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren, Charlie, Chloe, and Mark. He loved playing cars and being silly with Charlie, and he treasured talking, spending time on the water, and sharing adventures with Chloe. With Mark, he enjoyed conversations about history and their views on life. His grandchildren brought him immense happiness, and they always knew how much their Papa adored them.

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Martin and her husband, Patrick Muldoon, of Marion; Jillian Martin and her husband, Robert Walker, of Middleboro; and Trinity Lyn Ferreira-Martin of Fairhaven; his grandchildren, Chloe Muldoon, Charlie Walker, and Mark P. Muldoon III; his brother, David Martin; his sister-in-law, Judy Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His larger-than-life personality, unforgettable sense of humor, and unconditional love will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His daughters and grandchildren will carry his love, laughter, stories, and memories with them always.

John was truly one of a kind. He lived loudly, loved fiercely, laughed often, and made sure life was never boring. In the hearts of those who loved him, John will always be forever young.

He will be loved and missed more than words could ever say.
