John J. Martins, 49, of New Bedford died Friday March 7, 2014.

Born in New Bedford, the son of Anthony J. and Marie C. (DeAndrade) Martins, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Mr. Martins was formerly employed as a police officer for the New Bedford Police Department for 19 years. He had also worked as a real estate agent for Century 21.

He was an avid runner and enjoyed working out at the gym.

He is survived by his parents; his children, Damien Martins and Jordan-Lee Martins, both of New Bedford; his siblings, Anthony Martins, Jr. of New Bedford and Geraldine Souza of Marion; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
