John Matthews, 46, of New Bedford died September 4, 2016 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Melissa J. (Manning) Matthews.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Carol (Martin) Matthews of New Bedford and the late Victor Andrade, step-son of the late William Matthews, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
John enjoyed dancing and danced with Youth In Motion during the 1980's. He was a devoted father and cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; 5 sons, John Matthews, Jr. and his wife Paige of Salem, MA, Isaiah Matthews, Johnathan Manning-Matthews, Jovante Matthews and Justice Matthews, all of New Bedford; 4 daughters, Kiarna Sud-Martinez of Tacoma, WA, Mckaylha-rae Rohrbach of Rhode Island, Alexus Matthews and Aleah Matthews, both of New Bedford; 4 brothers, Benjamin Matthews of Mattapoisett and Jeffrey Matthews, Victor Matthews and Victor Andrade, all of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Susan McFadden of New Bedford, Elizabeth Verdecchia of Rhode Island, Loretta Andrade of Boston and Rita Mendes of Wareham; 2 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Duke Matthews, Reneé Matthews and Rose Littleton.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, September 10th from 1-5 PM with a Prayer Service at 5 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a GoFundMe account set up in his memory https://www.gofundme.com/2nmupaz8.
