John Morris Santos, 85, of New Bedford died Thursday January 13, 2011 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford after a long illness.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antone and Louise (Grace) Santos, he lived in New York for many years before returning to New Bedford eight years ago.

Mr. Santos was formerly employed as a merchant seaman for many years until his retirement.

He was a member of the Seafarers Union.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Andrade and Pauline Antone, both of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Santos, Louis Santos, Beatrice Barros, Madeline Andrade, Christine Barros, Louise Lopes, and Bena Santos.

His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visitation will be on Wednesday morning from 10-11 AM prior to the service.
