John Pena, Jr., 96, of New Bedford died Monday December 20, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn G. (Almeida) Pena.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Martha (Post) Pena, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Pena was the proprietor of John Pena's Barber Shop for many years until his retirement at age 85.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Union Lodge #4, F & A.M.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Lopes and her husband Manuel of Sacramento, CA,Antoinette Pena of Washington, DC, and Audrey Mosby of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Carrie Ferreira and her husband Joseph of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Marcy Pena of Lanham, MD and Mae Pena of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Harry, Kenneth, Roland, Muriel, Audrey, Thurban, and Claudine.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by a Masonic Service at 8 PM, and his Funeral Service at 8:15 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
