Silveira
July 2, 1940 – September 15, 2025
John Enos Silveira, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully after a period of declining health at the age of 85 in Summerfield FL where he resided. He was the loving husband of Shirley Ann (Monteiro) Silveira. He was born and raised in the New Bedford, MA the son of the late Narcizo Enacio Silveira and Sarah Maria Rosario.
John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army who achieved the rank of SGT, and earned several medals and awards including the Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
John was a dedicated financial officer for the U.S Government for several years prior to his retirement.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was an avid sports enthusiast. Whether actively participating in his younger years or passionately following various sports on television, he found immense joy in the world of athletics. During his high school career, he captured more than a dozen major individual titles. Most notable among these were New England individual cross-country titles that he captured during his junior and senior year. John was recognized for his superb performances as a junior by the Standard Times as the top performer in Greater New Bedford for 1958.
Outside his professional life, John found joy in a variety of hobbies and pastimes, he cherished moments with his family and friends, whether enjoying leisurely rides with his Harley Davidson or Audi, Bowling, playing pool, or relaxing at home with his beloved dog and cat.
John's memory will be cherished by his wife, Shirley Ann (Monteiro) Silveira, his children, John Silveira Jr., Jason Silveira, Chere Silveira, and Lori Silveira, and the late Debra Johnson and stepchildren, David Affonseca Jr., Lavell Affonseca, Morris Oliveira III, Marc Oliveira, Denise Affonseca, and Nadine Thomas. His brothers Daniel Silveira and the late Guy Oliveira, and sister Patricia Silveira, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
John leaves behind a legacy of love and will be dearly missed by all.
His visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 9:30-11:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church will follow at 12 Noon and burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
