John J. Smith, 62, of New Bedford died Tuesday February 16, 2010 at home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Melvin T. and Viola E. (Smith) Smith, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Smith was formerly employed by Borg-Warner and Velvet Drive Transmissions.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Carol Smith; and several nieces and nephews, including Elaine Gomes and her husband Alain, with whom he resided.
He was the brother of the late Kathleen M. Rogers, Thomas P., Lawrence P., and Melvin T. Smith Jr.
