Jose A. Rocha Fernandes, 61, of New Bedford died October 27, 2024 unexpectedly at home surrounded by family.

Born in Sao Nicolau, Cape Verde, son of Maria Helena (Freitas) Gomes of New Bedford and the late Manuel Rocha Fernandes, he lived in California before moving to New Bedford in 2008.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, walking and listening to music.

Survivors include his mother; a daughter, Jassira Rocha Fernandes and her fiancé Humberto Pinto of New Bedford; 16 brothers and sisters, Venulda Ribeiro, Ivone Abreu, Pedro Gomes, Rubens Gomes, Débora Veiga, Fernanda Rocha Fernandes, Martinho Rocha Fernandes, Francisco Rocha Fernandes, Dulce Rocha Fernandes, Helena Rocha Fernandes, Ricardina Rocha Fernandes, Alice Rocha Fernandes, Joao Rocha Fernandes, Alcidia Rocha Fernandes, Adriana Rocha Fernandes, Oscar Rocha Fernandes, Ines Rocha Fernandes and Anna Rocha Fernandes; 2 grandchildren, Karilene Pires and Jaylan Pinto; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 12-3 PM with a prayer service at 3 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
