Jose Alberto "Simão" Alves, age 77, of Dartmouth, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Manuel and Maria Adelaide (de Simas) Alves, he came to the United States in 1967. He resided in New Bedford, MA until 1983 and then moved to San Jose, CA. In 2015, he ultimately made his way back to the East Coast.

On the East Coast, he was an owner of Alves and Sons Painting and on the West Coast was a dedicated employee at Lusamerica Foods, Inc. where he retired from. Jose Alberto worked tirelessly to provide for his family while also making a meaningful impact in his community. But his greatest role was found in his role as a father and grandfather.  Mr. Alves spent many years as a member of Filarmónica Nova Aliança, loved soccer, a true Benfiquista, and enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are his children, Michael Alves and his wife Jennifer of Elk Grove, CA, Brian Alves and his wife Tracy of Antelope, CA and Ashley (Alves) Kilanowich and her husband Graham of Dartmouth; his siblings, Antonio Alves, Fernanda Ramos and Olga Sousa; his grandchildren, Adelaide and August Kilanowich, and Hope, Isabelle, Sophia, Ethan and Jayden Alves; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was the brother of the late Estela Pacheco, Manuel Alves and Grace Silva.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 9 AM at the funeral home followed by his burial at Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
