Jose M. Vieira, 82, of Acushnet, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He was the loving husband of Maria de Deus (Pine) Vieira.

Born in Ribeira Quente, São Miguel, son of the late Antonio Vieira and Melania Miguel, he lived in São Miguel until 1985 when he moved to New Bedford.

"Baeita" was a fishing captain for many years in Portugal and enjoyed fishing as a hobby when he moved to the United States. Jose loved watching Benfica and hosting family barbeques and events. He enjoyed going out to breakfast with his family.

Survivors include his wife Maria; his children, Saozinha Gonçalo and her husband João, Jose Vieira and his wife Manuela, Antonio Vieira and his fiancée Regina Oliveira, Grace Madeira and her husband Dennis, and Victor Vieira and his wife Kelly; his grandchildren, Dina Gonçalo, Catia Cabral, Eric, Cory, Kathleen, and Alyssa Vieira, Chris and Andrew Madeira, and Makayla Vieira; and eight great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his grandson Kyle Vieira and his siblings Antonio Rego, João Vieira, and Maria Lodi Vieira Melo.

The family would like to thank the Royal fo Fairhaven staff for the exceptional care they provided to Jose.

His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 12th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday November 11th from 4-7 PM.
