Josefa R. Freire, 84, of New Bedford, Massachusetts died November 27, 2018 peacefully at home after a long illness.
Born in Maio, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Honorio and Leopoldina (Rosa) Freire, she lived in New Bedford for the last 17 years.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Josefa was a local leader and community organizer.
She enjoyed playing the drums.
Survivors include her 6 children, Higino Freire, Agrepino Freire, Maria Jesus Freire, Jose Freire, Hermenegildo Freire and Maria DaLuz Freire; a sister, Maria Freire Brito; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her visiting hours will be held Thursday, November 29th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Cape Verde.
