Joseph Almeida, Jr.

Joseph Almeida, Jr., 76, of Fairhaven passed away Monday, September 7, 2026. He passed peacefully surrounded by his children. He was the husband of the late Susan M. (Gardella) Almeida.

Born New Bedford, son of the late Joseph Almeida and Fabiola (Lareau) Rapoza, he grew up in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, Class of 1969, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife Susan.

He taught plumbing and pipe fitting at Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School for more than 30 years. He also coached football and baseball, during his time at the school. He was a retired member of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local 51.

Joseph remained active later in life. An avid golfer, he was a 40 year member, past president, and former Club Champion of Reservation Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling to golf destinations with his family and friends. He visited as many sports stadiums as he could including his beloved Fenway Park, where he enjoyed many visits with his wife and two children

He is survived by his two children, Margo and Jonathan; his three brothers, Dana Almeida, Stephen Almeida, and Lambert Almeida along with their wives and children; and many other nieces, nephews and extended family.

His Funeral Mass will be Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 440 Main St., Fairhaven, with everyone invited to meet directly at Church. Visiting hours and burial are omitted. A celebration of Joseph's life will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, beginning at 10 AM, at the Reservation Golf Club, 10 Reservation Rd., Mattapoisett.
