Joseph C. Dutra, 83, of Dartmouth died December 3, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  Born in East Taunton, the son of the late Joseph N. and Yvonne (Faille) Dutra, he lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth.  Mr. Dutra was employed in the insurance industry and later worked at Ocean Spray until his retirement.  He played trumpet in his high school and college bands as well as in Portuguese parade bands in Taunton and played in a summer tour with Chubby Checker.  Mr. Dutra enjoyed his many animal companions and building projects around the house.  He is survived by his wife Denise B. O'Grady; a son, Paul Dutra of Orlando, FL; 3 step-children, Douglas O'Grady and his wife Ashley of Brookfield, CT, Colleen Williams and her husband Thomas of Brimfield, MA, Chad Bolduc of Los Angeles, CA  as well as the late Steven O'Grady; and his grandchildren, Samantha and Hannah Dutra, Jake and Patrick O' Grady; Kayden Williams and Ryan Bolduc.

His funeral service and burial will be private.
