Joseph J. Pierce, 89, of New Bedford died February 7, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Virginia T. (Kelly) Pierce.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William L. and Ann V. (Glynn) Pierce, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Pierce was formerly employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph for many years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees during World War II. He was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic - Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon,the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Pierce was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531, Knights of Columbus and Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an avid golfer and spectator of all sports especially Notre Dame Football.
Survivors include a son, Joseph J. Pierce, Jr., and his wife Anne, of Falmouth; a daughter, Ann P. LeComte, and her husband Peter, of Temecula, CA; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Pierce of Fairhaven; his twin sister, Betty Waring of New Bedford; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Stephen W. Pierce.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, February 10th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Thursday, February 9th from 4-7 PM.
Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery.
