Joseph E. Piva, 77, of New Bedford died December 2, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Mary L. (Medeiros) Piva, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Piva was formerly employed as a commercial fisherman on several vessels in the New Bedford fleet. He also was a business agent for Seafarers International Union, and Teamsters Union Local 59.
Mr. Piva enjoyed riding his Harley.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his 3 daughters, Lorrie Piva and Kim Piva, both of New Bedford and Stephanie Piva of Virginia; 5 grandchildren; his companion, Brenda Paulson of New Bedford; and many brothers and sisters.
His funeral arrangements will be private.
