Obituary

Joseph A. Ptasienski, 85, of New Bedford died Friday November 14, 2008 unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of the late Therese (Duchesneau) Ptasienski.

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Joseph and Henen (Pis) Ptasienski, he lived in Acushnet and New Bedford most of his life.

Mr. Ptasienski was formerly employed by Aerovox for many years until retirement. He also worked as a cook in several local restaurants.

Mr. Ptasienski served in the U.S. Army during World War II participating in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He enjoyed traveling and bowling at Wonder Bowl.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Leocadia "Lou" Pittsley of East Freetown; friends, Sandra Christoun and her husband Frank and Cindy Preston and her husband Lawrence, and their families, all of East Freetown; his niece, Ann Smith and her husband John, and their family, all of New Jersey.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday November 18th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, November 17th from 6-8 PM.
