Joseph Simmons, Jr., 75, of Dartmouth died June 26, 2009 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Claire (Boutin) Simmons.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Maria C. (Travassos) Simmons, he was a lifelong resident of Dartmouth.
Mr. Simmons was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
He was formerly employed by the Town of Dartmouth, D.P.W. Highway Division as a truck driver and town worker for 30 years until his retirement in 1993.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Robert Simmons and his wife Simone of New Bedford and Richard Simmons and his wife Jeanne of Acushnet; three sisters, Francelina Moniz, Lydia Duarte and Natalie Kent, all of New Bedford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Mary Leite and Inocensia Simmons.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Monday, June 29th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church 10 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, June 28th from 4-8 PM.
