Joseph Tavares, 88, of Dartmouth died Monday August 2, 2010 at home. He was the husband of Mary (Alves) Tavares.

Born in Bristol, RI, the son of the late Frank and Mary Margaret (Alves) Tavares, he lived in Dartmouth for many years.

Mr. Tavares owned and operated his own dairy farm in Dartmouth for many years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Paul J. Tavares and his wife Linda, and Carol Tavares, all of Dartmouth; a brother, James Tavares of Bristol; a sister, Alice Silvia of Bristol; and a granddaughter, Nicole Tavares.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
