Josephine (Barros) Carter, 92, of New Bedford died Friday October 14, 2011 at Sacred Heart Home.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Dominga (Alves) Barros, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

Josephine loved to sew and to play Bingo.

Survivors include seven children, Alan Barros, Barbara Bruce, Wendy McCarthy, Julie, Robert, Manuel, and William Carter; a sister, Pauline Faria; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Maureen, Richard, and Edward Carter, and sister of the late John Barros, Antone Alves, Stella and Julia Gomes.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
