Josephine (Souza) Mendes, 91, of Dartmouth died September 22, 2013 at Alden Court.
She was the beloved wife of the late Antone Mendes.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Violanta (Raposa) Souza, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Mendes helped run the office of the family business, Manhattan Bottling Company.
Survivors include her son, William Mendes and his wife Dawn of Dartmouth; a sister, Mary Walega of New Bedford; a sister-in-law and best friend, Marjorie Mendes of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Louise Macedo, Henry Souza, Joe Souza, Louie Souza and Mickey Souza.
Her private Funeral Service was held Tuesday, September 24th in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
