Joyce became a flight attendant for United Airlines in 1973 where she met her husband Lt Col (retired) Ray Levias. They were married 49 years.
Joyce was a lovely person whose smile lit up every room she entered. Joyce served as a flight attendant for over 30 years. She lived in Germany and spent a great deal of time in Italy while also commuting back to the US for work. Joyce was known for her tenacity and fighting for those who needed her strength. She was instrumental in ensuring that flight attendants medical records remained private and that flight attendant weight standards were reasonable. Joyce was a member of Bethel AME Church of New Bedford, Massachusetts and a past Worthy Matron of J.W. Hood Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star of New Bedford. "Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die"
