Julia Correia

Julia F. Correia, 96, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Hyannis, she was the beloved daughter of the late Benjamin and Adeline (Rose) Correia. Julia lived in East Falmouth before settling in New Bedford in 1951, a community she would call home for the rest of her life.

Julia was, above all else, a deeply kind and generous person. Forgiveness came naturally to her, as did compassion. She was the kind of woman who would give you half of what she had if you needed it, her uncanny ability to stretch a dollar could make you feel like a millionaire. Julia created warmth, comfort, and a sense of abundance, wherever she went. She appreciated the individual strengths in every person she met, always seeing people for who they truly were, eager to learn more about them, and champion their best qualities. Honest and direct, she told you like it is, with humor but always with sincerity, sweetness, and care.

A hardworking and faith-driven woman, Julia never shied away from responsibility. She approached the things she cared about with laser focus and diligent energy. She was grateful for what she had, eager to give to charity, and always willing to lend a hand or an ear. Julia was happiest when talking with others, listening, encouraging, supporting the people she knew and loved. Over the years she became a steady light to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

For more than 20 years, Julia was employed by States Nightwear, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Her greatest pride and joy, however, was her family. She was a devoted and inspiring mother who loved and supported her three children with unwavering devotion. Her care extended beyond her immediate family to everyone she loved, offering steadfast support, advice, and love.

Julia is survived by her two daughters, Shelly, another daughter and a son; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren, who carry forward her legacy of kindness, generosity, and faith. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, and 2 nephews. She was the sister of the late Madeline Lopes, Augusto Lopes, John Lopes, and Eugenia Lombard, and two nephews. Julia F. Correia will be remembered as a sweet, sincere, hardworking woman whose generosity of spirit touched countless lives. Her light, love, and example will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 11:00 to 2:00 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Homes, 495 Park Street, New Bedford.
