Julia Pires Fernandes, 83, of New Bedford, formerly of Port Orange, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Henrique G. Fernandes.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, she was the daughter of the late Alvaro Pires and Maria Fortes Gonsalves. She was formerly employed by Cliftex Corp. until her retirement.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura Ribeiro of Rochester, MA and her companion Michael Frey, and Christine Goudreau and husband Denis of Ormond Beach, FL; two brothers, Joaquim Fortes and wife Julia, and Joseph Pires and wife Toni, all of New Bedford; a sister, Ana Miranda of France; along with aunts, uncle and many cousins.
Her visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 25th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with a prayer service at 7 PM during the visiting hours. Burial will be in Daytona Beach, Florida.
