IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen Jean
"Kate" Costa
May 4, 1969 – October 29, 2025
Kathleen Jean "Kate" (McGrath) Costa, 56, of New Bedford, passed away after a short illness on October 29, 2025.
She was the beloved wife of John T. Costa for 32 years.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Jean M. (Hill) McGrath, Kate remained a proud lifelong resident of her hometown. She built her life around the people and places she loved most - her family, her community, and the ocean.
Kate was a devoted wife, mother, Mimi, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness and quick wit could light up any room. She especially loved spending time with family and friends on her boat, "Miss Kate", where countless memories were made filled with laughter, sunshine, and stories shared over the water. Her love for boating brought her some of her happiest moments, especially during the annual Martha's Vineyard trips and other adventures shared with her family and close circle of boating friends.
She took pride in her job as a Real Estate Broker Associate at Seaport Realty, where her professionalism, honesty, and dedication made her not only a respected colleague but a trusted friend to many. Her ability to connect with people and her genuine care for others left a lasting mark on everyone who had the pleasure of working with her.
Kate's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her loving husband, John; three cherished children, Brennen Costa and his wife Diandra, Kaitlyn Costa, and Cullen Costa; and her first granddaughter, Blaire, who brought endless happiness to her life. She also leaves behind her brothers, Timothy McGrath and his wife Tracey of Rotunda-West, FL, and Michael McGrath and his wife Kim of Dartmouth; her sister, Kerry Zajac and her husband Joseph of East Freetown; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Kate will be remembered for her generous heart, her infectious laugh, and the love she poured into every relationship she had. Her presence made life brighter for those around her, and her memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
Her funeral services will be private.
