Kathleen Ann Ponte, 67, of New Bedford died January 4, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Cruz) Ponte, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
Miss Ponte was formerly employed as a social worker with the Department of Transitional Assistance for over 25 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed volunteering, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Bruce of New Bedford; 2 nieces, Debbie Darwell and Sandi Hardy; 2 nephews, Tom Bruce and John Bruce; many great-nieces and great-nephews; a great-great-niece and great-great-nephews; and many good friends.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7th at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society 5 Manley St. West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
