Obituary

Kim Souza, 67, of Acushnet died Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Beth Israel Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Derrick B. Souza.

Born in South Korea, daughter of Kang Chong Ok and the late Kim Chol Su, she lived in South Korea until the mid-1990s when she and Derrick moved to California. She later moved to Massachusetts and had lived in New Bedford and Acushnet for over 20 years.

She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 10 years, a job that she worked hard to achieve as a new resident in the United States. She and her husband later established, owned, and operated From the Seoul Restaurant in Dartmouth, the first Korean restaurant in the area. She was very proud to have started a restaurant when people were scared to try something different and then turn it into a successful business. Her authentic recipes and good cooking brought joy and smiles to many.

Kim enjoyed BINGO, karaoke, and was a hard worker who took pride in her work, both at work and at home.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her son, Brandon Souza; her son, Choi Chung Hyeon; her daughter, Choi So Young; her siblings, Kim In Hee, Kim Hyung Kon, Kim In Kon, Kim Young A, Kim Hye Kyung, and Kim Young Joo; and other extended family members in South Korea.

Her memorial visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 from 4-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fairhaven Animal Shelter, 200 Bridge St., Fairhaven, MA 02719. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
