Leda Decorie Kim, passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on December 29, 1945, to Earl and Steffie Decorie, and raised in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, Leda lived a life distinguished by professional accomplishment, a lifelong love of learning, and a wide range of personal interests that brought her joy throughout the years.
Leda attended The MacDuffie School, a college preparatory school, before later earning her degree from the College of Saint Rose. Her love of reading and learning remained a defining part of her life. She was exceptionally articulate and well-spoken, with a gift for expressing herself thoughtfully and a natural appreciation for the written word.
Leda built an accomplished career in banking, beginning as a teller at Schenectady Trust Company in New York, which later became TrustCo Bank. Through years of dedication and professional growth, she advanced to become Senior Executive Vice President at TrustCo. She subsequently transitioned to SEFCU, where she also served as Senior Executive Vice President. Her career reflected decades of experience and achievement in the banking industry, beginning at the teller window and culminating in senior executive leadership.
Outside of her career, Leda enjoyed a variety of interests that reflected her curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for life's many pleasures. An avid reader, she maintained a lifelong enthusiasm for books and learning. She also amassed an extensive collection of cookbooks, from which she created memorable dishes for her family over the years. Cooking and baking were among the ways she shared her interests and talents with those around her.
Gardening and orchids held a special place in Leda's life. At the family's former home in Guilderland, her husband, Sung Bok Kim, built a greenhouse addition at the front of their house, where she spent countless hours tending to and caring for her many orchids. She was a longtime member of the American Orchid Society, reflecting her enduring dedication to and enthusiasm for these beautiful plants. The greenhouse remains a fond childhood memory for her family and a lasting image of a pursuit she cherished.
Animals were another constant source of companionship and joy throughout Leda's life. During the family's years in Guilderland, pugs were a familiar presence at her feet and on her lap. Later, during her retirement years in Mattapoisett, she became especially devoted to her beloved Bouviers des Flandres. Her affection for animals extended well beyond her own pets. For many years, Leda was actively involved with Peppertree Rescue, an all-breed animal rescue organization, helping animals find loving homes. Her commitment was such that, when a home was needed, she was often willing to make her own home the answer. Her love for animals was expressed not only through the companionship she enjoyed with her own dogs, but also through her efforts to give other animals a second chance.
Leda also valued being involved in her community. During her years in Mattapoisett, she volunteered in support of local polling stations and library sales. She also served as Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattapoisett Housing Authority, contributing her time and leadership to the community she called home.
Her other interests included quilting, antiques, and collectibles, pursuits that reflected her creativity and appreciation for craftsmanship, history, and treasured objects.
Leda and her husband, Sung Bok, shared more than 50 years of marriage and family life. Together, they raised their three children and, in their later years, enjoyed retirement in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, where they spent the final 15 years of their lives in the home of their dreams. Sung Bok predeceased Leda in February 2026, approximately seven and a half months before her passing.
Leda is survived by her daughter, Briana Kim-Owens; her twin sons, Blakeley Kim and Cortland Kim; daughter-in-law Tia Kim; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucas, and Luna; her niece, Kimberlee Morrissey; and her nephew, Tommy Morrissey. She was predeceased by her husband, Sung Bok; her sister, Mondra Decorie Morrissey; and her brother-in-law, Walter Morrissey.
Leda's life encompassed a successful professional career, a lifelong commitment to learning, a devotion to animals and gardening, and a willingness to contribute her time and leadership to her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through her family, the experiences they shared, the community she served, and the many animals she helped find their way to loving homes.
