It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Linda M. Sumner, 79, of New Bedford, MA on October 24, 2026. Linda was born on June 13, 1947 and was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. She was the daughter of the late Raymond J. Lamontagne and Lucy E. Lamontagne of Westport, MA.
Linda is survived by her 3 sons and their spouses; Christopher Sumner (Janice) of Chester Springs, PA, Brian Sumner (Tarley) and Craig Sumner (Sarah) both of Acushnet, MA and her 4 grandchildren; Kirsten Sumner, Bradford Sumner, Lindsay Sumner and Carter Sumner. Linda's longtime partner Wesley Magoon predeceased her, but she is survived by Wes' 2 children, Sherry and Chad, and grandchildren, Mason, Avery, Evan, Autumn, Ashley.
She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Kevin J. Lamontagne (Edneuza Farias) of South Dartmouth and Sharron Shields (Gary) of Westport. She was predeceased by her brother Brian J. Lamontagne Sr.
Linda was a graduate of Holy Family High School and attended Kinyon-Campbell Business School. While raising her 3 sons, she worked in the business office of Hoyt Manufacturing Corporation. She later spent the majority of her career working in the Financial Aid Department of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Linda was a loving mother and grandmother who was happiest when surrounded by family. She loved planning for the holidays and the "next" family gathering. Everyone looked forward to the delicious meals she prepared for these occasions, as well as the conversation and laughter shared around the table.
Linda and Wes shared a love for the beach, ocean views and sunsets. They frequently visited Cape Cod for summer vacations and off-season weekend get aways. During the colder winter months, they looked forward to their many trips to Fort Myers Beach and the Caribbean.
Although Linda will be deeply missed, the love she shared and many cherished memories made with family and friends over the years will provide lasting comfort to all that knew and loved her.
