Loretta A. (Holmes) Wnek, 77, of Dartmouth died September 21, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
She was the wife of Frank A. Wnek.
Born in Provincetown, the daughter of the late Gabriel R. and Alice L. (Brown) Holmes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
Mrs. Wnek was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
She was formerly employed as a home health aide with St. Luke's Hospital for many years until her retirement.
Mrs. Wnek enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was a member of the the Ladies Auxiliary of the Freetown Post 6643 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Red Hat Ladies Society.
Survivors include her husband; a step-son, Ronald Wnek and his wife Lyn of Wareham; a step-daughter, Michele Costa of New Bedford; a brother, John Holmes of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Clara "Betty" Vieira, Ruth Lewis and Linda Pierce, all of New Bedford and Margaret Trahan of Fairhaven; a grandson, Kenneth Borges of New Bedford; 4 step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Mark Borges, Kenneth Borges and Kimann Borges and the sister of the late James Holmes, Gabriel Holmes, Jr. and Mary Ellen Ribeiro.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 25th at 9:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, September 24th from 4-8 PM.
