Louis J. Poirier, 83, of New Bedford died Sunday, December 15, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital after a battle with cancer.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Emile Poirier and Loretta (Leblanc) Cunha, he lived in New Bedford for all of his life.

Louis was formerly employed as a fish cutter for many years until his retirement.

He loved woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his little Yorkie, Teddy.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Poirier and her partner Gary Mello; his son, Shawn Poirier; 8 grandchildren, Nicholas Perry and his wife Katie, Jared Perry and his wife Katherine, Keanu Poirier and his wife Shawnte, Autumn Poirier, Cassie Kopp and her husband Zack, and Christopher, Rodger, and Victoria Viger; 7 great-grandchildren, Logan, Violet, Ivy, Willow, and Hunter Perry, and Jaxson and Nasir Poirier; his sister, Helen Olejarz; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughters, Julie Poirier and Laurie Viger; his great-grandson, Alexander Perry; and his siblings, Gloria Dacosta and Paul Poirier.
