Luis Manuel Alvarez, 73, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was the husband of the late Benilda (Vega) Alvarez for 26 years.

Born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, son of the late Justiniano and Aleja (Fernandez) Alvarez, he was raised in New York before spending most of his life between Puerto Rico and Massachusetts.

Luis worked as a handyman for many years. He was very social and enjoyed being with his friends, dancing and playing guitar. He liked going to the social club in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.

Survivors include his children, Jeannette Alvarez, Luis M. Alvarez, Antonio Alvarez, Sonia I. Alvarez, Luis A. Alvarez, and Diana Gonzalez-Alvarez; his sister Judith Amendolare; his best friend of 25 years, Tony Vargas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

According to his wishes, Luis will be cremated and laid to rest with his late wife in Puerto Rico.
